Prep notebook: Baseball recruiting showcase set

By JOE GROSS, Senior Staff Writer

High school baseball players who will graduate in 2007, 2008 or 2009 with the desire to continue on to play as collegians have an outstanding opportunity to make themselves known to college coaches and recruiters.

Player will have the chance to show their skills to recruiters by reserving spots in the fourth annual Mid-Atlantic High School Baseball Classic that concludes with the "Battle on the Ship" games that will be played Aug. 4 and Aug. 6 at University of Maryland Shipley Field.

The program, put together by former All-County baseball player Lou Holcomb, brings together many college recruiters and coaches who will assess the abilities of the players' skills and be in position to eventually recommend them for scholarships to colleges.

After going through the combine type skills sessions, there will be an all-star game pitting the "North" team made up of players from Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware against the "South" team from North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and District of Columbia.

Several Anne Arundel County players have gone through the program to help get noticed and recruited and are now playing for college teams.

More information on the program, brochures and applications can be acquired by calling Lou Holcomb at 410-593-9922 or at www.diamondrecruiting.com on line.
